Nontrauma Scene FlightsAs part of CCT CORE's ongoing assessment of HEMS utilization and cost-benefit issues, Dr. Howard Werman is leading an effort to characterize air medical utilization for nontrauma primary (scene) flights. The purpose of the study is to execute retrospective, descriptive analysis of nontrauma scene runs as performed by a number of different HEMS programs. This will be a first step toward assessing the optimal utilization of air medical resources for these types of transports. The non-trauma study has received interest from several air medical transport programs. Data has been received from all but one program who has expressed interest in the study. There is still time for other programs that are interested in contributing to this study. We have identified a medical student at the Ohio State University College of Medicine who will be collating and analyzing the data. The final study protocol is posted on www.cctcore.org, along with the data collection tools. The Initial IRB submission is expected to be expedited and when the IRB approval is available it will also be posted here on www.cctcore.org. In the meantime, anyone interested in participating in the study please contact Dr. Howard Werman Howard.Werman@OSUMC.edu |
